Serving as an altar boy is a sacred and time-honoured role within the Orthodox Church. Through active participation in the Divine Liturgy and other services, boys learn the deeper meaning of worship, the structure of the Church’s sacraments, and the discipline of reverent service.

The role of the altar server is one of stewardship, a spiritual offering of one’s time, presence, and attention to the sacred. By assisting the priest and standing in the sanctuary, altar servers uplift the congregation, help reveal the beauty of the Liturgy, and grow in their own understanding of God’s love and presence.
The altar is a holy place, like the mountain where Moses encountered God. Those who serve there are called to approach with dignity, humility, and attentiveness, recognizing that they are standing on sacred ground.

The Myrrhbearers have a cherished liturgical role during Holy Week, especially on Holy Friday and Holy Saturday. Dressed in white robes, young girls participate in solemn processions that recall the women in the Gospels who went to the tomb, witnessed Christ’s Resurrection, and were sent forth to proclaim the Good News.
This tradition connects our young girls with the very first witnesses of the Resurrection, Mary Magdalene and the other women, whose presence at the cross and the tomb are recorded in all four Gospels.
By participating as Myrrhbearers, these young women embody courage, devotion, and joyful faith, visibly reminding us of the light and hope of Pascha.
